What is Lowrance Geofence?

Since April 2010, Lowrance has implemented a new technology called Geofencing, which imposes restrictions on the use of devices outside the United States. This technology automatically disables the language change and unit selection options, and displays a flashing message on the screen informing the user that the device is not intended for use in the current region.

Why did they do this?

In fact, Geofencing uses geographical data to determine the user’s location and check whether they are within the United States. If the user is outside the US, the device’s operation will be limited.

Which Lowrance models have Geofence protection?

This protection is implemented in American versions of some Lowrance fishfinder models, including HDS-Live, Carbon, Gen2, Gen3, and HDS-PRO.

Why do I see the error “unit not valid for use in this area”?

If you see an error message indicating that the unit of measurement is not available for use in the current region, and the screen displays the message “Unit not valid for use in this area. Contact local authorized reseller for support”, this means that the device is restricted by geolocation and is not intended for use outside the United States.

Lowrance Geofence unlock

If you want to unlock the Geofence, you need to contact us through the “contact” section. The restriction can be removed remotely by entering a special code into your fishfinder, after which all device functions will become available. This only needs to be done once.
